Maruti Suzuki to Phase out all Diesel Cars by 2020

Maruti Suzuki is undoubtedly the most popular Automobile Brand in India with a huge number of both, Petrol and Diesel Cars for the Indian consumers. The company has recently introduced its new 1.5 Litre Diesel engine. The company has just confirmed that the cars with a 1.3 Litre Diesel engine will be phased out by the year 2020.

Maruti Suzuki has released their financial year report along with a confirmation of phasing out the 1.3 Litre DDSI engines from the market. With this announcement, there will be no Diesel variants of the Cars with 1.3-Litre Diesel Engine available for purchase in India. According to new rules and regulations and BS-6 norms, Maruti will mainly focus on manufacturing cars with 1.5 Litre DDSi engines.

With this new BS-6 norms, over 16 Maruti Petrol variants need an upgrade. So yes, the company will also reconstruct the engines of their petrol variants and there will be new petrol engines available on the market by 2020 from Maruti Suzuki. Both, the passenger and commercial vehicle segment will be upgraded by the company by 2020.

According to official reports, from April 1st, 2020 the company won’t be selling Diesel cars in India. The company is also focusing more on encouraging consumers to buy Petrol variants and CNG variants of their cars. Yes, there will be a number of new CNG powered cars available in the market from Maruti Suzuki in the coming years. Gradually, they will eliminate the Diesel cars from the market or keep the limited Diesel cars only.

If we talk about the current market, Maruti Suzuki’s half passenger cars are running on Diesel Engines. There are many top-selling Maruti Suzuki Cars available on the market with Diesel Engine.

Cars such as Maruti Suzuki’s Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Ertiga, Ciaz, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza are also using the same Diesel engine of 1.5 DDSi. Diesel Cars are covering up to 30% of the total sales and they are increasing day by day. However, with the new BS-6 norms, the company is encouraging consumers to go for the Petrol variants and CNG variants of their cars.

We have to understand the fact that the newly introduced 1.5 Litre Diesel Engines will come back to the market and the company will not stop the production of their 1.5 Litre Diesel Engine and the cars which are using the same engine. We will get to see new Maruti Suzuki variants with the same 1.5 Litre DDSi Diesel Engine.

Maruti has spent over 1,000 Crore in the production of their new 1.5 Litre DDSi engine for their premium range Diesel cars. In such case, the company may not want to lose their invested money and will keep on producing their engines for the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Cars.

Indian Consumers are focusing more on premium range cars and Maruti Suzuki has three models Maruti Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the upcoming Creta Rival which require a well-suited Diesel Engine. The company has to ensure a suitable price gap between Petrol and Diesel Variants of cars. More information on the upcoming cars and future plans will be released by the officials soon.
