India’s Biggest Automotive Extravaganza: The Auto Expo 2020 is now not even a month away and every auto manufacturer has fastened their seat belts to kickstart a great year. Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India’s biggest car manufacturer seems to have an exciting pavilion at the Expo as the brand has now teased a new upcoming product called the ‘Futuro-E’ concept SUV.
The teaser image of the Futuro-E concept SUV hints that it will be a mid-size SUV rivaling the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks, and Renault Duster. However, it was earlier speculated that the Futuro-E will be an EV based on Maruti’s latest offering Maruti Suzuki S-Presso since the concept name of S-Presso was Future-S. It was also rumored that it will be an EV based on Maruti Suzuki WagonR which has been spied several times testing on the Indian roads.
But Maruti Suzuki has proved everything to be wrong as the teaser image shows a futuristic mid-size SUV. The teaser image doesn’t show us anything except the coupe-styled silhouette. The Futuro-E will have a coupe-like slanting roofline along with the elements of an SUV like a high raised bonnet, body-cladding all around, faux skid plates and good ground clearance. The teaser sketch also showcases LED lights which do look very futuristic.
The Maruti Suzuki Futuro-E will make its World Premiere at the 2020 Auto Expo and is likely to be powered by a 1.5L K-series petrol engine. We do expect that Maruti will offer a diesel engine too in the future with this vehicle and it will get electric powertrain options too.
On the announcement, Mr. CV Raman, Senior Executive Director, MSIL said “Concept FUTURO-e resonates Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to creating exciting designs for the next generation. Offering a sneak-peek into the future of design, Concept FUTURO-e represents Maruti Suzuki’s vision for the Indian automobile market. Pegged as an Indian car with global sensibilities, Concept FUTURO-e takes into consideration the evolving desires of the country’s aspirational youth. Concept FUTURO-e tastefully draws inspiration from geo-organic structural forms occurring in nature. Its beauty is evident from its simplicity and magnificent detailing.”
